Erectile dysfunction (impotence) refers to the inability of a man to exercise sexual intercourse.

'Impotence' literally means 'powerlessness', and thus the inability of a man is meant to function sexually, or even totally as a man.

According to the largest study on ED in recent years, the Massachusetts Male Aging Study (1987-2004), a wide distribution of the erectile disorder was observed in:

— 9.6% of men between 40 and 70 years suffered from severe form of erectile dysfunction
— about a quarter of these men (25.2%) suffered from moderate ED
— more than 17.2% of men surveyed had mild forms of erection problems
